Perth’s first Smart Freeway contains an additional lane from Canning Highway to Narrows Bridge on the Kwinana Freeway.

Smart technology is used to open and close traffic lanes in the event of an incident and adjust speed limits to get more traffic through during busy periods.

It provides motorists with greater journey reliability, saving time, reducing cost and enhancing safety.

Detour options

  • Principal Shared Path (PSP) Closures

The following closures of the Kwinana Freeway Principal Shared Path (PSP), between the Canning Highway and Narrows Bridges, are required to finish works associated with the Smart Freeway - Kwinana Northbound project:

    • Friday 18 September, 7pm, to Saturday 19 September, 6am: Cale Street to Comer Street closed overnight for sewer repair works.
    • Sunday 20 September, 7pm, for approximately one week: Cale Street to the Narrows Bridge fully closed for PSP resurfacing works. This will include a single overnight closure of the PSP between Canning Highway and Cale Street for work in the vicinity of the Como Sea Scouts.

Detours will be in place for cyclists and pedestrians at all times. Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey.

  • Canning Highway On-ramp and Principal Shared Path (PSP) closure

Road users are advised that Canning Highway's on-ramp to Kwinana Freeway northbound will be closed tonight (Thursday 24 September) from 8pm to 5am.

This closure is required to faciliate access to the Kwinana Freeway's Principal Shared Path (PSP) for resurfacing works in the vicinity of the Como Sea Scouts.

The PSP will also be closed tonight between Canning Highway and the Narrows Bridge. It will remain closed between Cale Street and the Narrows Bridge until late Friday.

Detours will be in place for road and PSP users at all times. Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey.
