This project involves extending Mitchell Freeway 5.6 kilometres from Hester Avenue to Romeo Road in Alkimos.
Key features of the project include a new interchange at Lukin Drive, a rail tunnel for the existing rail line at Butler Station, connecting Romeo Road from Wanneroo Road to Marmion Avenue as well as a new path for pedestrians and cyclists.
The extension will service the rapidly growing north-western suburbs of Butler, Yanchep, Alkimos and Eglinton and areas to the east including Nowergup.

Temporary closure of Karoborup Road (southern) entry into Wanneroo Road
The next stage of construction for the new Romeo Road/Karoborup Road and Wanneroo Road intersection will require the temporary closure of the southern access to Wanneroo Road from Karoborup Road (opposite Romeo Road).
Wednesday 19 October 2022 to Tuesday 14 February 2023
