This project involves extending Mitchell Freeway 5.6 kilometres from Hester Avenue to Romeo Road in Alkimos.

Key features of the project include a new interchange at Lukin Drive, a rail tunnel for the existing rail line at Butler Station, connecting Romeo Road from Wanneroo Road to Marmion Avenue as well as a new path for pedestrians and cyclists.

The extension will service the rapidly growing north-western suburbs of Butler, Yanchep, Alkimos and Eglinton and areas to the east including Nowergup.

Detour options

  • Permanent Closure of Redington Drive Southbound

    To construct the new Lukin Drive Interchange, including the extension of Lukin Drive, access to Lukin Drive from Redington Drive will permanently close on Monday 16 August 2021.

    Road users will still be able to access Redington Drive from Lukin Drive.  

    For southbound road users on Redington Drive, a new turning circle will be installed at the southern end of Redington Drive.

    Southbound road users wishing to connect to Lukin Drive will have access via Shepperton Drive, Tarpon Link and Connolly Drive.  

    The driveways to residential properties on Redington Drive will not be impacted.

    Access to Lukin Drive from Hinchinbrook Avenue will not change.
