The Bussell Highway Duplication project upgraded a 17-kilometre section between Capel and east of Busselton with a bridge, new lanes and road improvements.

Stage 1 of the Bussell Highway duplication was completed in December 2021 and included the construction of a 5-kilometre section of road between Capel Bypass and Hutton Road, as well as reconstruction of a part of the existing carriageway, resulting in two lanes in each direction.

The first section of Stage 2, 3.3km between Hutton Road and north of Ludlow River, was completed in April 2022. Construction of the remaining section of Stage Two, between Ludlow River and Sabina, was completed in April 2025.

The 46-kilometre unimpeded section of Bussell Highway between Bunbury and Busselton will also benefit from the Regional Road Safety Program, which includes widened shoulders, safety barriers, street lighting and audible line markings.
