Stage 1 of the Bussell Highway duplication was completed in December 2021 and included the construction of a 5 kilometre section of road between Capel Bypass and Hutton Road, as well as reconstruction of a part of the existing carriageway, resulting in two lanes in each direction.

Stage 2 involves construction of a further 12 kilometre section between Hutton Road and Busselton, which will include the construction of three bridges over the Abba, Sabina and Ludlow rivers, to provide dedicated north and southbound carriageways at each location.

The first section of Stage 2 - including 3.3km between Hutton Road and Ludlow River - opened in September 2022. The remaining section of Stage Two, between Ludlow River and Sabina, is scheduled for completion in late-2024.
