Great Eastern Highway is an important transport link to the eastern states, and work is planned to improve safety and improve freight efficiency.

Upgrades are being delivered to improve various sections of the Highway through the Wheatbelt and Goldfields-Esperance regions.

Works between Walgoolan and Southern Cross are continuing. Road widening and shoulder sealing of 15 kilometres between Stephen Road and west of Noongar South Road in Bodallin along with intersections upgrades at Parker Range Road are due for completion in April 2024.

Other upgrades include intersection improvements at Penton Road, Ivey Road, Blyth Road, Bodallin South Road and Bodallin North Road and construction of a new two-kilometre eastbound overtaking lane and westbound rest area between Bodallin and Moorine Rock.

A number of other upgrades have already been completed including the replacement of four bridges and widening at Coates Gully and replacement of the Walgoolan Bridge.

Widening and sealing of the first 11km of road at Ghooli has also been completed with work on a further 11km section now underway.
