Great Eastern Highway is an important transport link to the eastern states, and work is planned to improve safety. Up to 1,800 vehicles use the highway each day in the Wheatbelt, with 40 per cent of those heavy vehicles.
A number of upgrades have already been completed. Upgrades planned to begin in mid-2022 include shoulder sealing of a 40km section from Dedari to the Coolgardie townsite.
Construction of a new bridge away from the road in Walgoolan started in early 2021 with the bridge at Moorine Rock widened at the same time.
The replacement of three bridges in Coates Gully is also underway, with works due for completion in mid-2022.
