The Outback Way is an iconic 2,800 kilometre route from Laverton in Western Australia to Winton in Queensland via Alice Springs. It is often referred to as Australia’s Longest Shortcut.

The Great Central Road is the gazetted name for the route within WA, which consists of the 855 kilometre section from Laverton to the WA/NT border.

Almost 800 kilometres of the remaining unsealed sections of the Outback Way are in Western Australia and this project will include widening and sealing sections of road along the iconic route.

The first component of works, sealing a 40km section of road, has commenced and is expected to be completed by June 2021.
