Bayswater Station and surrounds will become a key METRONET precinct connecting to the Midland, Airport and Morley-Ellenbrook lines, giving people the choice of travelling to Perth Airport, the Swan Valley tourist region, Perth CBD and beyond.
Once complete, the new Bayswater Station will feature four platforms and two entrances, plus integrated retail outlets, gardens, art and public spaces.
Critical station works and the installation of about 1.8km of new track will be carried out during a 26-day shutdown of the Midland and Airport lines from 31 March, reopening 26 April 2023.
Train replacement bus services will operate during this time.
The infamous Bayswater Bridge will be removed during the shutdown, with works on a new, higher rail bridge underway.
Bayswater Station will close during the shutdown and, when the lines reopen on 26 April, will remain closed until September to allow works to safely continue on the 150m-long elevated southern platform and station area.
A free shuttle bus will operate between Bayswater and Meltham stations from 26 April until Bayswater Station reopens.
Regular passengers of Bayswater Station will be able to apply for a SmartRider that will provide free travel for three months, valid from 31 March 2023. Details regarding eligibility and the application process are available on the Transperth website.

What critical works will take place during the 26-day shutdown of the rail lines?
Approximately 1.8km of track will be laid to realign the Midland Line and facilitate the connection of the future Morley-Ellenbrook Line, as well as new turnback infrastructure between Bayswater and Meltham stations.
Other works include:
- Removal of all current Overhead Line Equipment, signalling equipment and 1km of track.
- Demolition of the old Bayswater bridge and train station.
- Completion of the Leake St pedestrian underpass upgrade.
- Piling works for the viaduct structure.
What train services will be impacted during the shutdown?
Trains will be cancelled on the Midland Line between Midland and Perth stations, and on the Airport Line between High Wycombe and Perth Stations from first service Friday 31 March until first service on Wednesday 26 April 2023.
Replacement bus services will be available.
The privately owned Indian Pacific trans-Australia train, and Transwa's Prospector, AvonLink and MerredinLink services, will all terminate at Midland during the shutdown.
When and how will the old Bayswater Bridge be demolished?
The old Baysie Bridge will be removed during the shutdown using a mechanical demolition process.
The bridge will be removed by heavy machinery in sections.
How will nearby residents be impacted by works during the shutdown?
Crews will be working 24/7 to complete major rail and station works. Noise, vibration and traffic impacts will be managed in accordance with approved plans.
Some temporary road and pedestrian pathway closures are also expected. Works will be updated on the METRONET website.
When will passengers be able to access the new Bayswater Station platform?
Bayswater’s new elevated southern platform and station area will open in September 2023 and will service the Midland and Airport lines.
Why won’t the station open after the shutdown?
The project continues to face materials supply issues and labour shortages which have impacted the construction schedule for the platform and station.
Where can I find more information on the provision of free travel?
