A 4km section of the Minilya-Exmouth Road, which was built in 1964 and provides access to the iconic Ningaloo Reef, has been upgraded.

The upgrades, north of North West Coastal Highway, included road widening, resurfacing and the installation of audible edge lines.

The project will help prepare the region for a rare total solar eclipse in April 2023 which is anticipated to draw 10,000 to 50,000 eclipse chasers to Exmouth.

Benefits

  • Improved amenities for visitors to the region
  • Increased safety for road users, particularly during the wet season
  • More commercial opportunities
