Serious flooding as a result of heavy rainfall associated with Tropical Cyclone Ellie has caused significant damage to parts of the road network in the Kimberley. Main Roads Western Australia crews have commenced recovery and repair works. Three main areas have been affected:

Great Northern Highway, Willare section: Road construction crews are undertaking temporary repairs, with planning underway for a full road rebuild to begin in the dry season.

Fitzroy Crossing Bridge: The bridge sustained significant flood damage. A barge system is being implemented while a low-level floodway crossing is constructed. Planning has started for a new bridge across the Fitzroy River.

Gibb River Road: Crews are unable to access flood-damaged sections of the road due to wet season conditions.
