Stage 2 of the East Kimberley (Kununurra) Regional Airport (EKRA) upgrade extended the length of the existing runway, enabling the removal of weight and passenger restrictions on aircraft taking off from Kununurra.
Construction on the project is now complete and will be operational subject to final approvals.
This project is part of the Regional Airport Pavement Upgrades (RAPU), a State Government commitment to upgrade aircraft pavements at the regional airports of Albany, Carnarvon, East Kimberley (Kununurra), Eucla and Onslow.
The Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure is administering the project in partnership with the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley. Approximately 55 jobs were directly supported through the runway upgrade.
