As part of ongoing safety improvements, several sections along Gibb River Road will be upgraded to improve the general condition and serviceability of the road, especially during the wet season.

Upgrades include improvements to floodways and gravel sheeting between Gibb River Station and Kalumburu Road, improvements to the road geometry and drainage, and undergoing road sealing where required.

Ongoing maintenance includes re-sheeting sections of road with gravel where the old, unsealed pavement is being worn away by traffic.

This work will provide a safer driving environment for all road users, in both wet and dry conditions, while reducing road maintenance needs.

Benefits

  • Improved road safety
  • Reduced commercial transport costs
  • Reduced road closures due to flooding
  • Reduced maintenance costs
  • Improved access for Aboriginal communities and tourism
