Two bridges will be constructed downstream of the heritage-listed Causeway Bridge, providing improved access across the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) for those riding, walking or wheeling.

The cable-stayed bridges will provide a six-metre wide shared path and will create a safer connection for people walking and riding from the Perth CBD to Victoria Park and beyond.

Construction of the bridges commenced in the Derbarl Yerrigan late-2023.

Currently more than 1,400 cyclists and 1,900 pedestrians use the two-metre wide Causeway path each day.

Site establishment and ground improvement works have commenced at McCallum Park, Heirisson Island and Point Fraser.

The first bridge module which is 34.4 metres long, 7.8 metres wide and weighs 103 tonnes was delivered at the beginning of February.

The design of the bridges showcases Aboriginal heritage and draws inspiration from the stories of Fanny Balbuk and Yagan, two significant Aboriginal people associated with Heirisson Island.
