The Carnarvon Airport upgrade work involves improvements to the airport runway, taxiways, and pavement to support unrestricted access for Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, which currently operate the Regular Public Transport (RPT) air service to Perth.

The works will help maintain the long-term safety, reliability, and structural integrity of the airport’s infrastructure, ensuring it can accommodate current and future aviation demands, while minimising maintenance needs and operational disruptions.

This project is part of the Regional Airport Pavement Upgrades (RAPU), a State Government commitment to upgrade aircraft pavements at the regional airports of Albany, Carnarvon, East Kimberley (Kununurra), Eucla and Onslow.

This project is being administered by the Department of Transport in partnership with the Shire of Carnarvon.

Benefits

  • Enhanced connectivity to the region for residents and visitors.
  • Stimulates economic opportunities.
  • Ensures the airport can utilise the Q400 aircraft between Carnarvon and Perth.
  • Enhanced airport longevity and durability.
